Chretien to Dion: Trigger an election

CTV.ca: "We hear now that ... Chretien and Jean Pelletier, his former chief of staff, are telling him it's a matter of credibility, that he can't support the government any more and that the timing would be right," Jean Lapierre told CTV's Question Period on Sunday.

Translation: our party has made a grave error in picking you as leader because it is obvious you don't have what it takes (charisma or toughness) to lead our so-called natural governing party back to the promised land. So get on with it and trigger an election already.

Dion has trouble defending his past as attacks ads are getting the best of him publically. Even his positive accomplishments.

I am a ex conservative..and I am voting Liberal this time. Harper has been spending, they brought back all the bureaucrats the liberals fired, they raised income taxes....I never thought I would have to vote liberal for smaller more fiscally responsable government. Oh, ya , and they lied about the gun registry...it's still running and costing us money. Harper does not deserve my vote, he didn't get it done.

Harper, like John McCain, has a long way to go to convince his true conservative base that he is still what he said he was.

Right now (and maybe because he is in a minority situation) he appears to be reaching out to separatists and liberals more than to his own base.

pissinginthetent... you might want to take a hard look at all of Dion's new priorities before you make that call.

While I agree that, once again, we are being bribed with our own money, I think those bribes would change to outright extortion under Dion and the Liberals

Elections really do come down to how you frame your opponents record (or lack thereof). If this becomes the case, which it always does, then the lack of resources on the liberal side will become an issue, especially when the tories fire up their well funded, high tech war room on the east side of Ottawa.

nb, if an election does come I think Harper will have the hardest time getting his own message out. Making Dion look like a complete boob is easy, just put him in front of a camera and let him talk.
