Vive la république!
Here's an issue that I would love to see go to a vote in Canada via a referendum. As for Australia, the two questions were fairly close the last time, but were ultimately defeated. Although the plebiscite did raise some concerns:
Critics of the referendum argued that it was rigged in favour of monarchists because it gave voters only the option of having Parliament elect a President and not the direct election of a head of state by the people.Which [again] is why they should have a preferential ballot with multi-options where the bottom option is knocked off the ballot after each round until 50 per cent + 1 is acquired.

Agreed. I have said before that the Queen/Governor General is to modern heads of state what the Ox Cart is to automotive excellence.
There are still a lot of older monarchist in Nova Scotia who remember their uncle or older brother fighting under the union jack in WWI.
But if you ask me, it's time to have full power over our affairs. Which is why I say rid the monarchy from the constitution.
The monarchy is well past its usefullness as it is a feudal and unaccountable institution in a modern, democratic age.

I disagree. It’s kinda cool being some distant part of the faded British Empire.
Yes, cool, that's how I want to decide my head of state. By which is the coolest...
Just got back from Bill Casey's speech tonight, and I gotta tell ya, things are looking quite bleak for the tories around the region (so a certain tory said).
...on the advice of the prime minister.
At least our constitution is codified.
