Atlantic Discord. The Sequel
When it comes to political promises, Nova Scotians are not easily sold, especially when it is based on half truths and their own money. If you don't believe me, check the comments section of this article in the Daily News. I think that Mackay should have remembered that old political maxim which was championed by Bob Stanfield during a 1956 campign speech in Yarmouth:
"Let me say this, I don't propose to campaign for votes in Nova Scotia by being cute with the truth. we are going to talk sense and talk straight, and if we can't then we shouldn't say anything at all. There is, after all, a clear distinction between fact, a false impression and a falsehood. And no one can tell the difference any quicker than the people of Nova Scotia."

So public opinion and voter sentiments only matter when goodies are being handed out, but not when legally binding, signed contracts, are not being honored.
Nice take Mackay!
This one grabbed my attention: "i think stronach took mackays nuts as well as his heart!!"
And to think, I thought it was Harper.
The Harper tories have reached the point of no return in Nova Scotia.
Mackay's seat may be safe, but if I were Keddy or whoever is going to be the sacrificial Harper lamb in Cumberland Colchester, I would be worried.
As for Rodney, he's been done for quite sometime now, even amongst most of his own party.
Chris: I'm against government institution like ACOA which Mackay and the liberals have used as a vote buying mechanism.
anon: ouch!
ron: I can't see anybody beating Casey, especially since he is highly popular in Cumberland Colchester, not to mention, he has the backing of every conservative strategist, MLA and organizer in his riding. Good luck to anybody who decides to go against that! Mehtinks he won't even need Danny boys help.
Bill Casey is a god down here in conservative circles, not Mackay and Harper.
it would seem Casey has a little reform in his blood. Too bad he waited until now to show it.
Finally,a man with principles.
With regional loyalties split, it will be interesting to see what Harper decides to do. I'll put my $$$ down that he clings to his initial stance on Casey allowing him and his riding association to drift off into political oblivion.
Furthermore, I don't expect the heavy hitters in Nova Scotia to come to his rescue this time around. It looks like it will be the riding association, premier Williams and Casey against the Tories, Liberals and NDP in the next election.
